Can You Claim From Multiple Insurance Policies?
Geraint is a Financial Strategist with one of the leading Financial Institutions in the world, managing numerous client’s financial portfolios.
“If I have multiple policies, can I claim from all of them?” This is one of the most frequently asked questions I get from people,
And the answer is..“Yes!” For Life Insurance
For life insurance policies, you can claim from multiple policies.
For eg. If you have 2 whole life policies, you can claim from both.
Some examples of these types of policies that you claim from more than 1 are:
- Whole Life Policies
- Term Life Plans
- Endowment Plans
- Investment-linked Plans
- Critical illness (CI) Insurance
As long as the policy has an agreed sum assured, which is the amount that you will receive when an unfortunate event occurs such as death, disability or critical illness.
“No!” for Hospital Plans
The only type of insurance that you can only claim from one is the hospital plan.
In Singapore, you can only have 1 personal hospitalization plan, which is also called your integrated shield plan.
However, you may also be covered under your company’s employee-benefit insurance.
If that’s the case you can only claim from either one. Most insurance companies would encourage you to claim from your company’s employee- benefit insurance first.
I hope I’ve clarified your doubts and answered your question. 🙂
